I knew Le Phare when I was still a young fashion design student at the HEAD. I used to go there to find inspiration for my future designs while chatting with some regular clients who later became my friends. Le Phare is an emblematic bar for the Geneva LGBTIQA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual) community and a haven of tolerance and good mood. People come here to relax and have fun. No judgements or any type of discrimination whatsoever. The bar welcomes everyone due to the open-mindedness of its customers. It shut down during the summer of 2015 and we had to get ready for a long wait before being able to go back to the counter of this legendary place. Two long years staring at the scaffolds instead of the colours of the rainbow. The community building needed a little renovation… rather a Big one to meet today’s energy and security standards.
Now it’s done! Since September 21st, Le Phare reopened under Pierre’s management and his two new partners, Cédric and Romain. Despite the makeover, the place didn’t lose its soul. You can still find a small stage near the windows where you can sit on the cushions and contemplate the people passing by. The table and bench settings remain unchanged as well as the counter; only the back alcove seems different (or is it my astigmatism that plays tricks on me?). Otherwise, we are indeed at Le Phare. Dim lights, candles, playful music and peanuts scattered on the tables by voracious and clumsy customers.
You may enjoy spirits and soft drinks of all kinds and especially beer produced from small local brewers, Geneva wine, ethical sodas (Nestlé and Coca locked in a dungeon) and a small menu made of homemade tapas. In addition, our three friends intend to organise again theme parties from time to time. Believe me, those parties are not to be missed under any circumstance. To cut the story short, this is an unpretentious place with a friendly atmosphere that is dear to my heart and is a blessing for Geneva. You can spend some quality time with your friends, have a good time without any friends and why not conclude on a misunderstanding.
