Moderat @ Antigel

On Thursday, February the 16th, Moderat is coming to town, thanks to the Antigel Festival. And I must admit I first hesitated to write a few words about this concert.
Moderat is one of the “super stars” of the Antigel Festival (with Patti Smith, etc…) and I am sure all the media will cover the topic. So I wondered what could I personally add?
I’ve heard Moderat for the very first time in 2010 during a dance course at the Studio des Bains. It was barely a year after they had released their album also called I. The track A New Error felt like a bomb. It’s the kind of music that runs in your head forever, on which you want to fly away, run at full speed or go on a circuit and drive really really fast. Something raw, punchy with a percussive rhythm. Which is logical as Modeselektor – Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary – are bass music heroes. The 3rd member of Moderat – Apparat – (real name: Sascha Ring) fuses tricky electronics with heartfelt and auspicious pop.

Sometimes when I am feeling down, like really down I select this track on my iPod and suddenly, I feel like fighting again and facing life with all its obstacles.
And just because of that track, I will personally attend the concert of the Berlin trio.
When you wish to encounter culture with a big C, it involves many risks: you can be disappointed when you expected something amazing (I remember the artist STBRKT which sounded perfectly fine on my iPod but was really not worth listening to on stage) or you can find magic and feel connected somehow to the person who is performing (Max Cooper or Chloé/LuLúxpo/LaForêt at the Usine or Odesza at the PTR to name only the 3 musical phenomena that I’ve seen on stage recently in My Big Geneva).
Personally, I am always ready to take such risks. May I invite you to do the same?
