MBG Hosted By Infomaniak

People keep asking me: where is My Big Geneva located? So I thought I’ll let them know once and for all. My Big Geneva is right here (see below): all our ideas, pictures, content, all the people we’ve met, who inspired us to write about them, our favourite Geneva’s festivals, our values, our videos, etc… All are hosted by Infomaniak.

My Big Geneva's website is hosted by Infomaniak

And why has My Big chosen Infomaniak to host its website and as a solution for our newsletters? (By the way, I hope you’ve subscribed to our newsletters…)
The answer is quite Big:
First of all, since My Big is a non-profit organisation, Infomaniak offers the lowest cost .ch as well as a newsletter tool far better than Mailchimp. During the early days, we were using Mailchimp and the bill got bigger and bigger when we exceeded the “free” benchmark of 2K subscribers (like I said, a long time ago), not to mention the layout bugs and the fact that whenever a problem occurred I could never reach Mailchimp directly (by the way, Mailchimp lives in the Trump country in Atlanta to be specific). Mailchimp was a really a pain to use.

But trying to make savings at all cost, I disagree: I really don’t see the point in hosting a website in Bangladesh just because it’s cheaper on an unknown server whose data protection isn’t perfect.
Infomaniak is not only a hosting company and a great technological tool, but mostly a company, established in Geneva by 2 founders: Boris Siegenthaler and Fabian Lucchi. No shareholders. The support team is at OUR service 7 days a week and is just a phone call away. Infomaniak technicians speak fluently 5 languages and not some kind of geek language that nobody understands. Perfect communications. Problems are always solved in a timely manner (if there were any problems to begin with).

The irony is that Infomaniak’s profits depend on dehumanising technology (I will not dwell on this subject) but it’s a human-sized company for which the customer, sustainable development and the human element are important.
Do you need an example? I spent a few hours with Thomas Jacobsen (Communication & Marketing) and during our conversation, he mentioned the ISO certification. Heu… What’s that about? Infomaniak is a sustainable company: this decision is not based on the fact that ecology has become trademark (you know like I-eat-green-I-sort-the-waste-but-I-drive-a-V12-every-day-to-work. This decision is a true desire of Boris Siegenthaler, Infomaniak’s CEO, who created a job position within his company to manage the energy and the environnement impacts and who actively encourages his employees to use green mobility. Each year, external consultants verify that the ecological objectives are achieved within Infomaniak. And if you do not believe me, just click HERE.

Before leaving our cosy hosting company (Avenue de la Praille) and after a little guided tour, I could not help myself to ask a few Big questions to Boris Siegenthaler. Here are his answers:

Your official canteen
Hmm le Dix-Vins, le Flacon, la Maison Rouge, Le Bistroquet, le Kudeta… this is where I get my alcohol dose at lunch, was that the question?
Black or milk chocolate?
Both. Black and not roasted to live long enough. Milk chocolate to die happy tomorrow.
You favourite thing in the world
My house and everything that’s inside, including wife and kids.
The book you’ll take on a desert island
My subscription to the magazine “La Recherche”.
An artist on your Playlist
RadioMEuh.com for its musical biodiversity
The movie you’ve seen at least 259 times
Hmm…  A movie becomes cult to me when I seldom see it. Let’s say Blade Runner because that’s the next movie I’ll watch with my daughters. And a very long time ago, I may have watched a porn movie on VHS at least 259 times or maybe I’ve watched 259 VHS porn movies at once.
If you were a super-hero, you’ll be…
My Parents, they’ve given me a couple of super powers but also their faults. So far so good, my kids think I am a super hero; if I managed to pass on a couple of things to them, that would be already great.
A website you’re addicted to
Wikipedia, but I am not addicted to it. I simply think it’s the most beautiful thing that the internet has made.
Please complete: never without…
Everything I’ve mentioned in this interview.

PS: just to make things perfectly clear, I wasn’t paid to write this post. Not one single content creator within My Big Geneva is actually paid or forced to write on anything. Writing should always be a choice and not a service…
