Plainpalais… you obviously know its round-about, its flea market, but have you ever walked its little parallel streets?
The Vignier street, right after the round-about, is the first street on your left, following the tram line which heads to Carouge. Partially pedestrian, this is where you will find the Illuminés Design boutique. You will be attracted by the window of the shop when you see many lamps suspended from the ceiling.
Whether you like American, Danish, Italian, French or Swiss design, you will find your happiness: Eames, Panton, Rizzo, Sarfatti, Castiglioni, Rizzo, Boyer, Monnet, Bellman, Breuer…. The choice is very Big but I just wanted to share this secret place with you mostly because of the two owners. They are obviously passionate about design, the 50s and the 60s but also the Bauhaus school – a tremendous source of creativity – they both like the idea of giving a second life to these beautiful objects, which they both think as a rich and innovative heritage.
Both owners have specialised in different tasks: Marlon searches for the perfect object, renovates it and packs it for you whereas Christine welcomes you and helps you make the right choice. Together, they make a joyful team which inspires you.
So, why these lamps? “Light is magic, it’s the final touch that depicts the scenery formed by the furniture. All the designers have worked on lamps and sometimes, they have exclusively dedicated their achievements.”
As they are as demanding as you and me, they work with painters and carpenters to renovate the furniture as close as possible to their original character.
And if you don’t leave in Geneva or close by, don’t worry, they are ready at any time to ship internationally. No excuses not to go.
