Château des Avenières

Located 20 minutes away from Geneva, the Château des Avenières was built on top of a hill as a tribute from a sister to another.

1904, Mary Wallace Schillito traveled from the United States to Geneva. She discovered the Avenieres’ domain and decided to buy it in order to build a sanctuary in memory of her beloved sister. A couple of years later, she found love and married Assan Farid Dina of Indian origin. Assan Dina is a genius: he masters the science of astronomy and is an engineer. But he also believes in spirituality. Those beliefs will push him to shape the gardens as a gigantic butterfly surrounded by a sculpted sphinx and build a chapel inside the castle using Egyptian and kabbalah symbols to paint what he calls the universal knowledge.

When death did them part, the castle became a school where Philippe Noiret, Claude Brasseur, Jean-Jacques Debout, and Jacques Mesrine studied.

It is only in 1994 that the Odin family inaugurated the place as a hotel and restaurant.

On the national road taking you to Annecy from Geneva, only 15km from our city, right after a curve on the way to the top of the hill, the Domain of Avenieres appears.

PS: concerts and other cultural events are scheduled throughout the year.
