Last November, the movie theatre Cinerama Empire was finally re-opened during the launch of the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans. This central movie theatre had been closed since 2011 and nearly ended up as a fitness centre.
Today, the theatre offers 330 seats, a balcony (the only one in Geneva) with 22 designated sofas for 2 people which can be booked online, the carpet is a perfect reproduction of the carpet of the Motel in the movie Stanley Kubrick’s movie Shining, the Big panoramic screen is curved and the sound is simply amazing.
Jean-Pierre Grey (who is responsable for the movie programmes) has scheduled mainstream movies however, events such as Sunday mornings conferences and a tribute to Shining (of course) are to be expected according to him. It’s a Big change considering that in the 70s, the Cinerama Empire screened porn movies (some of us may regret the good old days lol).
Anyway, to cut the story short, this is THE place to watch a masterpiece.
