Café Coutume, a new coffee shop in Geneva …
Do you like the smell of coffee in the morning? I do! “I love taking a Latte from a coffee shop on my way to work”. Unfortunately in Geneva, the number of coffee shops is so small that I rarely get the chance to enjoy a take-away Latte. If only I lived in a Big city like Paris or London, take-away coffee would be my daily routine, I could even make a small list of the best coffee shops. But that is another story…
So when the Café Coutume coffee shop opened in our marvellous city, I headed straight there to discover the place with a big enthusiasm. However, it still had to prove it was worth my time. So on a rainy Saturday afternoon, I was all prepared to taste its coffee.
Located on the Boulevard Carl-Vogt near Unimail (Geneva’s University), Coutume coffee shop is far from being a beginner in terms of coffee, since the coffee shop already exists in Paris but also in Tokyo and Osaka. In fact, Coutume coffee shop is a coffee roasting house founded in 2010 by Antoine Nétien (best French roaster in 2011) and Tom Clark. They have several coffee shops, sell their own roasted coffee and have also trained hard to become Baristas. You may be wondering what a “barista” is. This term of Italian origin refers to the person who has acquired a certain level of competence in the preparation of coffee drinks based on the espresso. In other words, he is a coffee sommelier.
I won’t go into too much detail about the history, because what really interests me is the product, in other words, the coffee itself! Espresso, courted, filter coffee, latte, cappuccino, flat white, etc. all types of coffee are available right here. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice when searching for the coffee that will suit you the best. As you already know I always take a Latte. Coffee lovers would certainly think I should order a black coffee… but I am in love with the Latte, sorry. And trust me, their Latte is simply delicious, especially when it comes with a cookie which turned my rainy Saturday into a happy day.
The place is very refined and bright with pastel colours which is very fashionable lately. Maybe it lacks a bit of coyness but it’s just a matter of time. Let us not forget that Café Coutume only opened recently. On the menu, you may also have tea or enjoy a brunch with salted and sweet pancakes.
So there you are, a new coffee shop in Geneva, at last. Do you feel like having a go?
