Festival Les Athénéennes

On Thursday, May the 4th (Be With You), Kevin and I headed to the Métropole hotel to attend the press conference of the Festival Les Athénéennes. We took the elevator to reach the sky and landed on the rooftop of the 5Lounge with a breathtaking view.
We met with Audrey Vigoureux, Marc Perrenoud and Valentin Peiry, 3 friends and musicians who are the directors of the festival and Garance – in charge of communications – all sparkling: the time was for celebration. Champagne!
Coincidence: when the 3 directors started speaking and presented this new edition, the sun came out as well.
This 7th edition theme is Timeless and Present to explore the dual nature of music: a living and historical object, illustrated by a poster of a modern young woman putting makeup juxtaposed to a portrait of Sainte Cécile, patroness of the musicians. Subtlety of which only the festival Les Athénéennes is capable of. And the festival grows Bigger and changed location: L’Athénée4 stage is replaced by the Alhambra, the Temple de la Madeleine and l’Abri, without denying its sacrosanct foundation: an intimate moment with artists. The stage of the Alhambra will be a full-scale stage. The guests will surround, as always, the local and international artists. The same applies to the Temple de la Madeleine. And this is one of the reasons why Les Athénéennes are so special and cosy. The festival forges links between the past, the present and the future, between music and people.
So what can be expected? A night at Les Athénéennes goes something like this: a first part is dedicated to “classical” music but in no case conventional and dusty, followed by a break where the artist meets with the audience… total improvisation. You talk about music of course, about passion, emotions while tasting some tapas with a glass of wine. Then comes the 2nd part with jazz music or music of the world. A 3rd part was created for the 2017 edition: an “after” party with swing, electro trip hop music, Garance behind the turntables, live, jam …
This year is also the time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Marc Perrenoud Trio: Elina Duni (a voice that Kevin adores) and David Enhco (trumpet) will complete the trio composed of Marco Muller (bass), Cyril Regamey (drums) and Marc on the piano.
