Hypnotic opening

Inside the Pitoëff theatre, I have a rendez-vous on November the 6th, with The Assassin by master Hou Hsiao-Hsien, even though the movie will be officially released in Switzerland in 2016. A Swiss premiere, a lyrical gift which the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans is offering us for its 21st edition.

The story is set in 9th century China. Nie Yinniang (played by the actress Shu Qi) was trained by a nun in the martial arts. After several years of exile, she is returned home, as an exceptional assassin, with orders by the Tang dynasty to kill her husband-to-be.
The film won Hou the Best Director prize in Cannes although rumour has it, it should have won the Palme d’Or.
